Check scope, assumptions and exclusions before treating quotations as directly comparable.

Normalize the quotation basis

Begin by checking that each proposal uses the same drawing revision, quantity, material and finish. A lower unit price may reflect a different assumption rather than a more competitive version of the same offer. Record the currency and the validity period. Keep sample quantities, tooling and production quantities separate so the comparison stays readable.

Look for included and excluded work

List tooling, setup, inspection, documentation, assembly, packaging and shipping arrangements. Note whether these items are included, priced separately or unresolved. Ask for clarification where the scope is unclear. A comparison sheet should make unanswered questions visible, rather than assigning an invented value to missing information.

Review the proposed route

Ask how the design and acceptance requirements will be addressed. For partner-supported work, clarify the communication and review process. Request only the documentation relevant to your project and verify that it applies to the proposed supply route. A company-level statement is not a substitute for project-specific confirmation.

Turn the comparison into a decision

Record the reason for the preferred proposal and the issues that must be closed before an order. If a design change is used to reduce cost, keep it linked to the revised quotation and approval. The best comparison creates a clear next action; it should not imply that a supplier has been qualified solely because a table has been filled out.

Planning guidance for discussion. Project specifications, manufacturing scope and acceptance criteria must be agreed for the actual application.
