PARTNER-SUPPORTED MANUFACTURING / SHEET SAMPLES

Sheet prototypes. Check the formed interface before repeating it.

A local fit sample, a full enclosure and a finished assembly can answer different questions. Define what the prototype represents and record the production assumptions it leaves open.

KeepWin coordinates partner-supported review. Exact material, responsible operations, process availability, dimensions, inspection, commercial quantities and timing are confirmed in the project proposal; no universal capability or certification is promised.

01 / SAMPLE PURPOSE

Choose the prototype around the next design decision.

The value of a prototype is the question it answers. Avoid treating a visually similar blank as evidence of the finished assembly.

Fit and access

Provide mating components, mounting positions and service access. Define the important formed or assembled relationships to check.

Shape and handling

Identify overall envelope, edge requirements and contact areas. Record whether the sample demonstrates geometry only or a defined use condition.

Surface and appearance

Map visible faces, seams, texture and color. Evaluate the actual processed sample under agreed conditions.

02 / REPRESENTED STATE

Keep the material and operation scope beside the sample identity.

A different stock or omitted process can change what the sample demonstrates. Describe those differences before approval.

Engineering illustration, not to scale. No measured result or universal process limit is shown.

Stock

Name grade, thickness and supplied condition. If a substitute is used for development, state why and what it cannot approve.

Geometry

Control model/drawing revision and any sample-only changes. Identify the final formed or assembled definition and file precedence.

Operations

List cutting, forming, joining, edge work and finish represented. Earlier-state checks should not be extended to later changed geometry automatically.

References

Provide mating parts, datums or physical appearance reference. Agree methods and quantities appropriate to the sample purpose.

03 / TRANSFER LIMITS

Separate a local question from a full production approval.

The prototype record should tell another reviewer what was evaluated and what remains to be confirmed.

ApplicationDefined use and relevant method.Conditions not represented by evaluation.

04 / ITERATION

Record design changes before another sample.

A relief, bend radius, stock or joint change can solve one issue while affecting another. Keep revisions and acceptance connected.

Change reason

Link each modification to the original requirement and the fabrication question it addresses.

Approval owner

State who can accept geometry, stock and surface changes and which mating or appearance checks must be repeated.

Commercial scope

Confirm included preparation, tooling, sample iterations and reports. Further work should be defined rather than assumed.

Production bridge

Identify what must be resolved before repeats, including route, material, finished state and delivery acceptance.

05 / SAMPLE RECORD

Save the decision and its boundaries.

A photograph alone rarely explains file revision, stock, operations and checked interfaces. Keep a short evidence record.

06 / QUOTE BRIEF

Quote the sample purpose and required completion.

A cut blank, formed component and finished assembly are different prototype offers. Compare their represented scope.

Provide

Files, stock, critical interfaces, mating reference, sample quantity, surface intent, use questions and destination.

Confirm

Which preparation, edge work, forming, joining, finish, iterations and evidence are included? What later production work remains?

Agree

Name approval owner and next hold point. Minimum quantities, process availability and timing require proposal confirmation.

07 / QUESTIONS

Before ordering sheet prototypes.

A sample should answer a defined question in a defined state.

Can a flat blank approve a bent assembly?

It can approve its agreed scope. Final formed or assembled relationships need appropriate evidence after relevant work.

Can prototype stock differ from production stock?

Only with explicit limits. Record the substitute and which questions it can and cannot answer.

Does one sample approve every finish?

No automatic extension is assumed. Material and finish changes may require another appearance or fit evaluation.

How should iterations be managed?

Control files and decision records and review the effect of each change on prior evidence.

What belongs in the approval record?

Identity, stock, represented operations, checks, decision, limitations and remaining production questions.

PREPARE THE NEXT DECISION

Send the sample question with the final geometry.

Include controlled files, exact stock, relevant formed interfaces, mating references, sample purpose, finish and joining scope, evidence, quantities and destination.
